A one day workshop and Hands-on Training on “Tekla Structures – BIM software”, was organized for 4th year Civil Engineering students at Saffrony Institute of Technology on 13th February 2019. The workshop was conducted by Kurban Hussain, M.E. Research Scholar at GTU.
He explained in his presentation, the wide application of Tekla structures- a BIM software. Encouraging students to learn the software, he told that the software helps to model high rise office or residential buildings, incorporating different kinds of building materials including steel, concrete, timber and glass.
The speaker also highlighted that the software allows structural drafters and engineers to design a building structure and its components using 3D modeling, generate 2D drawings and access building information. Quoting some of its applications as the design of Capital Gate at Abu Dhabi, UAE, apart from its wide use in modeling stadium, offshore structures, plants, factories, bridges, skyscraper, residential buildings, etc.
A Hands-on Session for the students was also carried for 3D Modeling, where the participants learnt the Modeling of basic structural elements, produce fabrication information and create layout and drawings.
