Every parent who sends their children to a professional engineering college expect that one day they can be successful in life, both financially and as good human beings. Financial success can be achieved by developing a strong career, be it a job or a business. To start a good career, one needs access to top-quality technical education. At Saffrony, we have been working on developing the technical skills of all our students and providing ample opportunities for those who want to excel in their careers. Results are in front of you all. Saffrony has consistently ranked as one of the top 5 engineering colleges under Gujarat Technological University (GTU). But did you know that soft skills are equally, if not more, important in the workplace as well as personal life? According to a survey conducted by LinkedIn, 92% of talent professionals and hiring managers say that soft skills are equally or more important than hard (technical) skills. A study by Harvard University found that 85% of job success comes from having well-developed soft and people skills. Soft skills can help individuals become better human beings and further excel in their professional careers.
Realizing the importance and contribution of soft skills in creating a successful career, we, at Saffrony, have developed an in-house program aptly termed "Professional and Life Skills Development (PLSD)." This 2-year program (4th-7th semesters) is exclusive to Saffrony students and is designed to give them a professional edge when they enter the corporate world. During this program, the emphasis is on deeper understanding of the different soft as well as life skills, and most importantly, on the implementation of these skills in everyday life. It's not just about theoretical knowledge; it's about being industry-ready and corporate-ready to seize opportunities and make a meaningful impact. PLSD is more than just a course; it's a practical journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Experiential teaching methods, interactive sessions, real life problem-solving assignments, psychometric testing, and 1:1 counselling facilitates the grooming of students into well-rounded, resilient, and adaptable human beings.
During the orientation week in 1st semester itself, students are introduced to the core concepts of Personal and Life Skills development along with an exploration of the Cost of Education teaching the significance of academic journey and the opportunities it can unlock in terms of personal growth, career advancement, and financial stability. The module on Teamwork and Leadership aims at fostering effective collaboration and interpersonal skills in students. Before embarking on any project, thorough discussions are held within each team to assess the skill sets, preferences, and aspirations of each member. Based on the learnings, teams are carefully formed, focusing on each member's strengths and weaknesses. Students then go on to learn the Art of Understanding others; Humility and Gratitude; and mastering Stress Management as well as Anger Management techniques - all essential for navigating the complexities of modern life. Through individually curated assignments, students then explore the importance of Goal Clarity and SMART Goal-based Career Mapping, while honing their Communication Skills through sessions on professional etiquette, email etiquette, and behavioral writing. Students then undergo exhaustive battery of Personality and Employability Assessments to gain deep insights into their strengths and areas for development. Based on their assessment reports, students are made aware of how they can transform themselves through in-depth 1:1 counselling session along with training in Project Management and Time Management techniques. The focus then shifts to Financial Literacy and Personal Finance planning, providing students with the knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively. Sessions on Business Finance Fundamentals and Entrepreneurship Basics equip participants with the tools to navigate the business world confidently. In the final phase, students receive dedicated support in CV Preparation, Interview Skills Development, and personalized 1-1 CV counselling to enhance their employability and career prospects. Through simulated interview scenarios and personalized feedback, students refine their communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to excel in job interviews and other professional interactions.
